University Event Planners host vendor showcase
Faculty and staff members who plan events, meetings, workshops or gatherings of any size are invited to attend the University Event Planners annual vendor showcase from 3-6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Morris J. Lawrence Building on the campus of Washtenaw Community College.
More than 50 vendors from the area’s events and hospitality industry are expected to participate and present ideas to make events special and event planning simple. There also will be opportunities to meet new vendors and sample food and beverages from caterers, learn about new amenities at local hotels; and network with other event professionals.
The event is free and open to all event planners and members of the events and hospitality community. For more information, e-mail uepchairs@umich.edu.

Labor rights advocate to speak Feb. 16
Ellen Dannin, Wayne State University professor of law, will speak on her book “Taking Back the Workers’ Law: How to Fight the Assault on Labor Rights” at 12:15 p.m., Feb. 16 in Room 138 of Hutchins Hall.
Dannin calls on labor to borrow from the strategy mapped out by the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in the early 1930s to eradicate legalized racial discrimination. She says this strategy must take place in a context of activism to promote policies established in the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) to promote social and industrial democracy, solidarity, justice, and worker empowerment. She contends that only by promoting these core purposes of the NLRA can unions survive.
