NCID seeks fellows, practitioner nominations

Related story:
National Center for Institutional Diversity names fellows>

The National Center for Institutional Diversity invites faculty with a track record of research, practice and/or teaching in the area of diversity to apply for four faculty fellowship positions for 2006-07. The center also calls for nominations for a community practitioner-in-residence program for those interested in working on a collaborative project that furthers the NCID mission.

The faculty fellows would be involved in a new or ongoing project that helps further the goals of the center, which include:

• Investigating diversity from multiple perspectives;

• Identifying, evaluating and supporting best educational, institutional and community practices for pursuing and benefiting from diversity;

• Cultivating and moderating public and academic discourse on diversity;

• Anticipating, preparing and planning for an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Fellows may receive up to $25,000 from NCID—$10,000 for the faculty member and the balance for other team members, project assistance and other costs. The projects may begin in summer 2006 and must be underway no later than Sept. 1.

The practitioner-in-residence program offers two or three community fellowships annually of variable length, depending on the nature of the proposed activity. With similar goals as the fellows, the practitioner program allows faculty and non-faculty nominees to propose projects that will be conducted in collaboration with a faculty member. Nominators particularly are encouraged to propose projects that involve faculty members and students. The project should begin no earlier than summer 2006 and no later than June 30, 2007.

For more information on how to apply for the fellowship or the practitioner-in-residence program, and to find a downloadable application for each program, go to www.diversity.umich.edu. The deadline for faculty fellowship applicants is March 30. The practitioner-in-residence program is an open-ended nomination process.
