President's Initiative on Ethics In Public Life forum: March 13th
The President's Initiative on Ethics in Public Life will host the third in a series of public forums from 7-9 p.m. March 13 in the Pendleton Room of the Michigan Union. The event is free and open to all members of the campus community.
The forum, "What Limits Should There Be on American Intelligence-gathering (Domestic and Foreign) During an Age of International Terrorism," will feature an address by U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz, R-Battle Creek, followed by comments from Ken Lieberthal, professor of political science and the William Davidson Professor of International Business, and Daniel Halberstam, professor of law and director of the European Law Program.
Last year, President Mary Sue Coleman created the Ethics in Public Life Task Force to explore how the University and education, in general, can contribute to a broader discussion of ethics in public life.
Among the task force recommendations was the creation of a series of public forums to address ethical issues. The first forums focused on academic integrity, and religious beliefs as a qualification for public office.
