Instructors will up-'grade' to new reporting system

Beginning with the Fall Term, University instructors will use Web Grades functionality on Wolverine Access exclusively to post final grades for their classes.

The last set of paper grade sheets were printed and distributed for the end of Summer Term. In December the Registrar's Office will send instructors an e-mail indicating when online grade rosters have been generated. The e-mail will serve as official notification to instructors that they can enter grades, which must be submitted 72 hours after the final exam for each class.

Instructors are encouraged to submit final grades for Fall Term prior to the University's closure for season days at 5 p.m. Dec. 23.

"We're very excited about this change because instructors can enter grades from anywhere using the Internet and students will be able to view their grades quicker than in the past," University Registrar Paul Robinson says. "It will also improve the efficiency and accuracy of the grade-entry process because grades will be entered by the instructor directly into the system."

Web Grades was tested last year by a pilot group of faculty and staff from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, College of Engineering, LSA, School of Nursing and School of Social Work. Feedback from chosen instructors indicated the new service is convenient and easy to use.

Robinson says instructors can prepare to use Web Grades by reviewing practice exercises that show how to enter grades individually or upload them from a file, and then approve the marks before saving them to the system. Entry information and other support materials are available at: http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/webgrades.html.

In addition, faculty and staff have received detailed instructions about their roles and responsibilities with Web Grades.
