Photo: Taking a stand by mixing it up

Brianne Walks, first-year nursing, Ashley Hardin, first-year pre-business and Ray Phung, first-year pre-business get acquainted during Mix-It-Up Day at Couzens Hall. The Nov. 15 event was part of a national day of awareness designed to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and spend the dinner hour getting to know others of another racial, ethnic, religious, cultural or social background. The day was sponsored by the students of Sociology 105, the Michigan Community Scholars Program and Couzens Hall. The national event organized by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Tolerance.org program and the Study Circles Resource Center was expected to draw the participation of thousands of students across the country.
