Mark Blatnik, left, Kevin Canze and John Hummel, U-M Museum of Art (UMMA) preparators, place one of 15 pieces of a 12th century limestone cenotaph, on display through June 29 at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens conservatory. The approximately three-ton monumentmost likely a memorial to an important personis in an environment at Matthaei resembling that of Syria. The cenotaph was a 1960 gift to UMMA that remained in storage until 1992 when it was moved to the grounds at Inglis House. Eventually it will be installed permanently in the expanded art museum.
