Flint's French Hall moves to bids
The David M. French Hall renovation project at U-M-Flint will be issued for construction bids following board approval. The schematic design of the 68,000-gross-square-foot project, which will create classrooms, faculty offices and support spaces, and address deferred maintenance items, was approved last April. Construction is expected to be completed in Fall 2008. Funding for the $9.35 million project will be provided from the 2005 Supplemental Capital Outlay Request to the State of Michigan and U-M-Flint resources.
Renovations for public areas, library at Moore building
Renovations to upgrade public areas and create a new seminar room in an existing library at the Earl V. Moore Building, home of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, will be completed by fall. The project continues repairs to flooring and repainting that began last year. Funding for the $1.6 million project will be provided from the Office of the Provost and University Library resources.
Second half of roof to be replaced at NCRB
About half of the roof on the North Campus Recreation Building will be replaced this summer with a new rubber roofing system. The other half had been replaced in 2003. Additionally some metal roofing and siding will be repaired, cleaned and repainted. Investment proceeds will fund the $1.3 million project budget.
New lab space at Kraus
The department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology will add a new laboratory in the E.H. Kraus Building this fall. Approximately 4,800 gross square feet of space on the fourth floor will be reconfigured to create the new biomedical research lab. LSA will fund the $930,000 project.
The electronic scoreboards at Michigan Stadium will be upgraded this summer to provide a more reliable and clear display. Light-emitting diode technology will be installed, along with a new message board. The Athletic Department will fund the $750,000 project budget.
Added safety measures at power plant
A natural gas leak detection system will be installed this summer at the Central Power Plant to enhance existing safety systems. Utility resources will fund the $700,000 project.
Wall Street property to be purchased
A small parcel of land contiguous to a University-owned parking lot at 1025 Wall Street is scheduled to be purchased later this month. Two leases for tenants in a small rental house on the property will not be renewed after they expire in August. Investment proceeds will be used to fund the $270,000 purchase price.
