Dr. Arnold Advincula makes a presentation about robotic gynecological surgeries during a worldwide symposium at U-M. Live telesurgeries took place at teaching hospitals in three separate locations—New Jersey, North Carolina and Arizona—and were observed by participants in the World Robotic Gyn Symposium, April 13-14 at Palmer Commons. Surgeons from as far away as Singapore and Italy attended the symposium hosted by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynocology. Advincula, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the department's Minimally Invasive Surgery Program & Fellowship, says the robot assists with extremely precise movements of the surgeon's hands, and provides imaging that helps the surgical team navigate a minimally invasive procedure. Advincula is known worldwide as an expert in the use of the da Vinci Surgical System. (Photo by Scott Galvin, U-M Photo Services)
