U-M mourns the loss of President Gerald R. Ford

The University of Michigan community mourns the loss of President Gerald R. Ford, distinguished alumnus and the 38th president of the United States, who died Dec. 26. He was 93.

Ford graduated from U-M in 1935 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and political science. He made regular visits to the campus, especially to the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library. More>



U-M sale of M-CARE clears state approval

The proposed sale of the M-CARE managed care organization by U-M to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and its Blue Care Network has received approval from the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services. Part of the sale is still under review by the state attorney general. The sale, which also was cleared in November by the U.S. Department of Justice, may be finalized before the end of the calendar year. More>

Savings expected from shift to generic cholesterol drugs

Physicians and their patients enrolled in the U-M Prescription Drug Plan who take brand-name, cholesterol-lowering statin medications, such as Zocor, Crestor, Pravachol and Lipitor, will be encouraged to shift to lower-cost generic prescriptions beginning Jan. 1. More>
