U-M faculty salary increases an average 4.1 percent

Faculty salary increases at U-M's Ann Arbor campus for 2006-07 averaged 4.1 percent, according to figures from the University's Salary Record, released Dec. 18.

The median faculty salary increase (the 50th percentile) was 3.2 percent, the 25th percentile was 2 percent and the 75th percentile was 4.7 percent. Thus, half of all faculty received an increase between 2 and 4.7 percent. "The University places a high priority on recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and staff, who are essential to our academic quality. It is vital that we find a way to reward them for their efforts," says Teresa Sullivan, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

Salary increases for staff at all grades averaged 3 percent. The median staff salary increase was 3 percent, the 25th percentile was 2.9 percent and the 75th percentile was 3.3 percent. The staff averages include salaries for employees in the U-M Health System and exclude bargained-for employees.

Merit salary increases for the University's executive officers averaged 3.1 percent. Merit increases for deans averaged 3.9 percent.
