Sullivan appoints Ford School dean search committee

A search advisory committee has been appointed by Provost Teresa Sullivan to identify finalists for the Joan and Sanford Weill Dean of the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.

Sheldon Danziger, the H. J. Meyer Distinguished University Professor of Public Policy and co-director of the National Poverty Center in the Ford School, is serving as chair of the committee that met for the first time Jan. 10.

Other members of the search advisory committee, who are from the Ford School unless otherwise noted, include:

• Robert Axelrod, Mary Ann and Charles R. Walgreen, Jr. Professor for the Study of Human Understanding and professor of political science, LSA; professor of public policy, Ford School

• Alford Young Jr., Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, associate professor of sociology and of Afroamerican and African Studies, LSA.

All members of the search advisory committee can be reached through a dedicated e-mail address, fsppdeansearch@umich.edu.

Sullivan has asked the committee to conduct a national search and identify a list of finalists by late spring. Rebecca Blank, who announced her resignation earlier this month after eight years in the position, plans to return to U-M as a faculty member when her term as dean ends July 31.

"Dean Blank is to be commended for her outstanding leadership of the school—particularly for her hard work raising funds and guiding the construction of the new Joan and Sanford Weill Hall that opened in August and now houses the Ford School, and for developing a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree program that is poised to enroll its first class of students in Fall 2007," Sullivan says.
