News BriefsPurchasing department has a new namePurchasing, Stores and Business Services has adopted a new nameProcurement Serviceswhich officials say better reflects the portfolio of services offered. Procurement Services provides all purchasing functions; accounts payable (including PCard and eBilling); print, copy and mail services; document imaging; and vendor diversity initiatives. Along with the new name comes a new look to the Procurement Services Web site, going live the week of Jan. 22. A redesign is expected to provide customers easier navigation and access to information. Customer forums are scheduled for late January and early February on the Central and Medical campuses (registration is not required). Nominations sought for 2007 OVPR Staff Service Awards Program The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) invites nominations of outstanding staff members for one of two awards to be given in spring 2007: the Distinguished Research Administrator Award and the OVPR Exceptional Service Award. Michigan Television celebrates record-breaking pledge drive WFUM-TV 28, the public television station from U-M-Flint, wrapped up a successful pledge drive Dec. 10 by getting more than $169,000 in contributions from over 1,200 members across southeastern and mid-Michigan. The money raised helps pay for programming costs and general operating expenses. Michigan Television is a service of Michigan Public Media, available on Comcast Channel 24 in most areas across southeast Michigan. Ford travel grant and scholar award deadlines announced The deadline for seeking travel grants through the Gerald R. Ford Foundation to conduct research at the Ford Library is March 15. In addition, a grant of $5,000 is awarded annually to support dissertation research on any aspect of the U.S. political process during the latter part of the 20th century, through the Gerald R. Ford Scholar Award in honor of Robert M. Teeter. The application deadline is May 1. Life Sciences Institute offers fellowships With support from the Perrigo Co., the College of LSA and the Life Sciences Institute (LSI), summer fellowships will be offered to qualified undergraduate students enrolled at any college or university in the state. Perrigo/LSI fellows will spend 10 weeks at the institute working in the laboratory of a world-class scientist. Some also may participate in the U-M's TechStart program for entrepreneurial training. Upon completion of the summer program, some fellows may be considered for internships at Perrigo. Fellows receive a stipend plus housing and travel allowance. Most applicants are undergraduate students in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or engineering and related fields. The application deadline is Feb. 19.
