Photo: Matthaei flower power

The orchid cattleya percivallianum 'Alberts' at Matthaei Botanical Gardens was recently awarded a Certificate of Cultural Merit by the American Orchid Society. The cattleya orchid is known as a more tempermental to grow and bloom than other orchid varieties. The award was granted based on this specimen's number of flowers per spike and the large size of its flowers. (Photo by Bruce Blyth)
