Susan S. Parrish, associate professor of English Language and Literature, has received the 2006 Ralph Waldo Emerson Award for her book "American Curiosity: Cultures of Natural History in the Colonial British Atlantic World" (University of North Carolina Press, 2006). The $2,500 award is given annually by the Phi Beta Kappa Society to studies that contribute significantly to interpretations of the intellectual and cultural condition of humanity.

John Tropman, professor of social work, has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist Award to visit the School of Social Work at the University of Melbourne, Australia, in May and June. Tropman will address executive leadership with students and local agencies. He also will work with the School of Social Work on strategic planning and present a public lecture on executive calamity.

Lisa Callihan, Michigan Administrative Information Systems Help Desk manager and co-vice president for communications for the Help Desk Institute-Motown Chapter, is to be honored at the national HDI conference in Las Vegas on April 30 for her work which earned the HDI Gold Level Circle of Excellence award for chapter growth, management, educational efforts and professional development.
