Photos: Spring Commencement 2007

Regents and platform dignitaries listen as President Bill Clinton offers the 2007 Spring Commencement keynote (row one, left). More than 6,500 students participated in undergraduate exercises April 28 before a crowd of some 59,000 family members and friends. Prior to the ceremony students posed for photos with friends and waved to audience members. Cell phone calls and text messages made it easier for graduates–who were seated on wooden platforms constructed on top of the football field at Michigan Stadium–to locate those who were cheering them on from the stands. Exercises for the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies were held April 27 in Hill Auditorium (row four, right). Phillip Converse, emeritus professor of political science who received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from U-M, delivered the keynote. Campus units observe commencement with special ceremonies. A group of College of Engineering (CoE) students display enthusiasm at their celebration (top row, this section, left). Reserve Officer Training Corps commissioning (row two, left); CoE grad from Oceanic and Space Sciences (row three, left) and married graduates each receiving Master of Automotive Engineering degrees (row three, right); a student from La Celebración Latina (row four, left) a graduate exits Michigan Stadium (row four, right); Kinesiology (row five, left); and students sing the alma mater (row five, right).
