Stay on top of U-M news by subscribing to URonline

In your e-mail box today (Nov. 20) you should receive a copy of our newly redesigned URonline—an electronic bulletin that offers a quick digest of the latest news from the University Record, with links to the full stories on our Web site, www.umich.edu/urecord.

At the top of your special URonline message is a link to subscribe to the weekly e-mail. We hope you'll sign up to receive it every week.

The subscription is voluntary. It's being sent to everyone on campus today to mark the launch of our new look. On an ongoing basis only those who sign up will continue to get the publication, although in the future we will send an all-campus issue once each semester to give potential new subscribers the opportunity to opt in.

As always, URonline offers a brief summary of several news items with a link to the full text. The new URonline adds graphics to give the package more appeal, and it mirrors our Web site navigation, so users can click on familiar headings to get to the calendar of events, accolades, news briefs, Regents Roundup and more.

The Record Web site contains all the stories found in the newspaper, plus a more expansive list of events than can be found in the print version. The database-driven calendar allows units to input their own events as far in advance as they wish (see Kevin Brown's related article this page). The site is posted every Monday morning and also gets updated when major news occurs between print cycles.

We know many will continue to prefer the feeling of holding a newspaper in hand and clipping a hard-copy article for the portfolio. We will continue to print and distribute the newspaper in racks across campus, through campus e-mail to units that have requested a specific number of copies, and via the U.S. Postal Service to retirees. But for those who have migrated to online news, the University Record Web site and the abbreviated URonline will bring the news quickly and conveniently to your desktops.

If you have any questions or comments about the Record—print, Web or e-mail versions—please contact us at urecord@umich.edu or call 764-7260 and ask for a member of the Record staff.
