Photos: A celebration of discovery

Seung Park, a fourth-year medical student, talks with Jenny Rode, business reporter for the Ann Arbor News (above) during the Celebrate Invention reception. The Oct. 10 event was to recognize the work of some 600 faculty involved in Technology Transfer. Park works with Victor Elner and Howard Petty in a startup called OcuSciences Inc. that has developed a new imaging technique for the fundus camera, used to examine the inside of the eye. Dr. Robert Kelch, executive vice president for medical affairs at the U-M Health System visits the display of Anand Swaroop, the Harold F. Falls Collegiate Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, (below). Swaroop and colleagues Masayuki Akimoto, Alan J. Mears and Hong Cheng conduct research in the area of photoreceptor precursors for treatment of retinal degenerative diseases. Their lab has developed methods to identify, tag and purify mouse retinal cells that are destined to become rod or cone photoreceptor precursors. Photos by Scott Galvin, U-M Photo Services.
