Elliot Gertel, the Irving M. Hermelin Curator of Judaica at the Rackham Graduate Library, unanimously was elected president of the Research Libraries, Archives and Special Collections Division of the Association of Jewish Libraries at the association's annual conference in Cambridge, Mass. He will serve a two-year term. The international organization represents more than 300 Judaica academic librarians.

James Walsh, the Gerald and Esther Carey Professor of Business Administration at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, has been elected 65th president of the Academy of Management, the oldest and largest scholarly management association in the world with 17,000 members in 97 countries. Walsh, a member of the academy executive committee, begins his term as president in 2009.

Dr. Shan Baker, professor and chief of the Section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, was elected president of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. ABFPRS is the only medical board that examines surgeons exclusively in facial plastic surgery. Baker has been on the board of directors for six years and served as its senior adviser for the last seven years. He also received the Larry D. Schoenrock Award for distinguished service from the ABFPRS for significant contributions to the facial plastic surgery examination program, its financial security and its support within the specialty, organized medicine and state legislative and regulatory bodies.

In addition, Baker received the William K. Wright Award from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for his service in the areas of education and leadership.

Award

Yoram Koren, Paul G. Goebel Professor of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has received the Gold Medal from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers International Awards & Recognition Committee. He will accept the award in person at the SME International Awards Gala on March 26, 2007, in Los Angeles.
