Anuj Kumar, assistant professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology in LSA and research assistant professor in the Life Sciences Institute, shows some love for the American League champion Detroit Tigers by displaying an oversized souvenir "paw" from his sixth-floor office window in the institute. Kumar, 37, started following the Tigers in the 1970s and has been a big fan ever since, as evidenced by a visual inventory of his office. On display are a Tigers ball holder, player bobbleheads and other items. Kumar, who holds a doctoral degree, laughs as he explains that he may have jinxed the Tigers during some earlier games this season by failing to sit in the proper position at his desk. He describes that position as facing nearby dorms rather than facing away from them. "If you can get the good mojo going, you have to keep it going," says Kumar, who attended five games this season. He and scores of U-M staff and faculty will be rooting the team on through the World Series. (Photo by Scott Gavin, U-M Photo Services) |
