Geriatrics Center clinics open Oct. 30 on East Medical Campus

The U-M Health System's Geriatrics Center is moving its clinics to the newly renamed East Ann Arbor Health and Geriatrics Center and will open at the new location Oct. 30.

The move will allow the Geriatrics Center to expand its clinical services, which has not been possible due to space constraints at the current location adjacent to the U-M Hospital, in a building the Geriatrics Center has shared with the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Geriatrics Center's new location opened Oct. 27 for urgent care visits and will reopen for regular business Oct. 30. The new address is 4260 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor. Free, ample parking will be available on site, as will valet parking and Ann Arbor Transportation Authority Senior Services discount taxi services.

"We will continue to offer high-quality care at the East Ann Arbor Health and Geriatrics Center. Our patients' doctors, nurses, social workers and staff will remain the same," says Dr. Jeffrey Halter, director of the Geriatrics Center. "Patients also will be able to have their prescriptions filled at the on-site pharmacy and have tests such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and CT (computed tomography) scans at East Ann Arbor. We foresee this being a very easy-to-use facility for our patients."

Halter notes that many people provided ideas about the design and amenities of the new site.

"I'd like to extend a special thank-you to the many patients, volunteers and community members—as well as our faculty and staff—who have provided valuable input throughout this process," he says. "We all worked toward the goal of making the Geriatrics Center clinics the best they can be."

The move occurs as services at the East Medical Campus continue to expand. Services at the East Ann Arbor Health and Geriatrics Center include ancillary and diagnostic services such as bone density scans, mammography, CT and MRI scans, laboratory and X-ray; a retail pharmacy; Health Education Resource Center; nutritional services; primary care services, including general medicine and gynecology; and specialty care services, including a Breast Care Clinic and Sleep Disorders Clinic.

Services available in other buildings on the East Medical Campus include a new Ambulatory Surgery and Medical Procedures Center, which features four procedure rooms and six surgical rooms for outpatient surgery and procedures; and a state-of-the-art Depression Center in the new Rachel Upjohn Building.
