Rosina Bierbaum, dean of the School of Natural Resources and Environment, has been re-elected to the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) Board of Trustees for a second three-year term. UCAR is a nonprofit consortium of 70 North American member universities that provides research, facilities and services for the atmospheric and earth sciences community. |
Elliot Gertel, the Irving M. Hermelin Curator of Judaica in the University Library, unanimously was elected president of the Research Libraries, Archives and Special Collections Division of the Association of Jewish Libraries and was installed at the association's annual conference in Cambridge, Mass. He will serve a two-year term. The international organization represents more than 1,000 members including Judaica librarians and archivists, academics, library assistants, authors, publishers, vendors and other information professionals. |

Charles Krafchak, research fellow in ophthalmology and visual sciences in the Medical School, has been selected to receive the 2006 Cotterman Award for his paper, "Mutations in TCF8 Cause Posterior Polymorphous Corneal Dystrophy and Ectopic Expression of COL4A3 by Corneal Endothelial Cells." It was chosen as one of the year's two best student papers published in the American Journal of Human Genetics between September 2005 and August 2006. The award was scheduled to be presented at the 56th annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics in New Orleans on Oct. 13. |
