The April 6 event was attended by student residents, University staff and special guests, including the daughter and sister of the critically acclaimed novelist, poet and essayist. Lorde-Rollins read from her mother's works, and students offered tributes that praised Audre Lorde's writings and her social and political activism for civil rights, feminism and gay rights. Lorde died in 1992, after chronicling her battle with breast cancer in "The Cancer Journals."
