Matthaei Science of the Seasons display returns for the holidays

The Matthaei Botanical Gardens 2007 Science of the Seasons Holiday Conservatory Display will feature a poinsettia tree more than 8 feet tall and another 300 pots of poinsettias.

The display can be viewed from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily, except Mondays, through
Jan. 1.

The display also features plants that like poinsettias bloom under shorter daylight conditions, from Central and South America, Madagascar and Asia.

Other plants that have this reaction to light, called photoperiodism, are holiday cacti and mums, which is why homes are decorated with these plants during the holiday season.

For more information call (734) 647-7600, or go to mbgna.umich.edu.
