Average U-M faculty salary up 4 percent

Faculty salary increases at the Ann Arbor campus for 2007-08 averaged 4 percent, according to figures from the University Salary Record.

The median faculty salary increase was 3 percent, with raises ranging from 2-4.6 percent.

"Because of the highly competitive market for outstanding faculty and staff, the University must continue to make a substantial investment in the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff," says Teresa Sullivan, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

The median staff salary increase was 3 percent, with raises ranging from 2.8-3.2 percent. The staff averages include salaries for employees in the U-M Health System but excludes bargained-for employees.

Merit salary increases for executive officers averaged 3 percent and for academic deans averaged 3.9 percent.

Copies of the complete Salary Record are on reserve at the University Library and may be purchased from the Human Resources Records and Information Services Department, 4073 Wolverine Tower, 3003 S. State St., (734) 647-0018. Cost is $33 (check payable to the University of Michigan), plus postage if mailed.
