Grant program announced for clinical research

The latest round of the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research/Clinical and Translational Science Awards Pilot Grant Program has begun, and applications are due April 1.

"This is a great funding opportunity at the University and is larger than any other similar program that we are aware of nationwide," says Daniel Clauw, associate dean, clinical and translational research. "This program is extremely valuable for providing pilot funding for clinical and translational research studies.

Funds from the Medical School and 24 other U-M schools, departments and institutes are co-mingled to provide approximately $5,000,000 annually in monies and in-kind services for projects that are judged meritorious by the CTSA Scientific Review Committee."

This program centralizes elements of administration for existing pilot programs and is designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and support clinical translational research. New funding being offered this round are the 5K Seed Grants and focused proposals in community engagement, health disparities and research ethics.

Full-time faculty from all schools and colleges are eligible to apply. Since research proposals must include a human component to be eligible for funding, basic scientists are encouraged to submit their applications with a clinical scientist collaborator.
