Don't miss: Concert honors composer William Bolcom

The contributions of Distinguished Professor William Bolcom will be honored at Celebrating Bolcom, a collage concert of music performed by University faculty and students.

The event, free and open to the public, will take place at 8 p.m. March 28 at Rackham Auditorium.

Among achievements since joining the University in 1973, Bolcom, who is retiring, was named Composer of the Year in 2007 by Musical America, won four Grammy Awards in 2006 for his work on William Blake's "Songs of Innocence and of Experience," received the 2006 National Medal of the Arts from President George Bush, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1988 for his work "12 New Etudes for Piano," and performed and recorded with mezzo-soprano Joan Morris.

Amidst national and global recognition, Bolcom has remained a dedicated teacher and colleague. As a professor, he was chairman of the Composition Department for five years and later named the Ross Lee Finney Distinguished University Professor of Composition.

The concert of chamber music and vocal performances will feature faculty and students including Aaron Berofsky, Arthur Greene, Brent Wagner, Catherine Collier, Daniel Graser, George Shirley, Logan Skelton, Paul Andrew Dwyer, Stephen Shipps and Yizhak Schotten.
