Michigan Radio named Station of the Year

Michigan Radio has been named Public Broadcasting Station of the Year for 2007 by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB).

This is the fifth year in a row Michigan Radio has received the award, announced March 11 at the MAB Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference in Grand Rapids.

Michigan Radio received seven broadcast excellence awards: Best Newscast, Charity Nebbe; Best Mini Documentary/Series, "Grading Michigan Schools," Sarah Hulett, Tracy Samilton and Samara Freemark with Lester Graham and Kaomi Goetz; Best Feature/Use of Medium, "Urban Explorers," Jennifer Guerra; Best News or Public Affairs Special, "Ashes to Hope: Overcoming the Detroit Riots"; Best Membership Appeal, "Pledge Questions," Nebbe; Best Marketing Materials and Promos, "Open House: Behind The Scenes," Tamar Charney; and Merit Hard News/Current Events, "Disability," Jennifer Guerra.

"The Station of the Year award is a tremendous recognition from our peers," says Director of Broadcasting Steve Schram. "It is exciting to have the high quality work of our reporters acknowledged with this honor. However, it's our listeners and supporters who also deserve the credit. Their continued investment in this broadcasting service is what makes everything we do possible."

The Broadcast Excellence Awards, one of the largest state awards programs in the nation, were judged by members of the Colorado Broadcasters Association on a variety of criteria including presentation, delivery and production values. A total 862 entries were received from 76 television and radio stations in Michigan.
