Delta Dental to administer U-M plan

Delta Dental has been selected as the new administrator of the U-M Dental Plan. This change will become effective Jan. 1. During the remainder of the current calendar year, dental benefits will continue to be administered by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife).

"All U-M benefits plans are periodically re-assessed to ensure the best match of services for our investment," says Laurita Thomas, associate vice president for human resources. "The selection of Delta Dental is the result of such an assessment, including a competitive bidding process."

The plan will include a base dental benefit that will require no employee co-premium contribution, and an option for broader coverage with an employee co-premium contribution.

Thomas says the details of the plan design are being confirmed. Once that process is completed later this summer more details will be shared by e-mail and on the Benefits Office Web site and will be included in open enrollment information in the fall. Until 2009, the current U-M dental plan through MetLife remains unchanged.
