IGR names new co-director

Kelly Maxwell has been appointed as co-director of the Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR).

Maxwell, who has served for seven years as associate director of IGR, also is a lecturer II in psychology. After earning her doctorate from Arizona State University, Maxwell's career has been devoted to dialogue as a means of understanding group differences and promoting social progress. She is the U-M site director of a multiversity research project on the effectiveness of intergroup dialogue, and is the primary author of an upcoming book on the training of dialogue facilitators. She replaces retired IGR Co-Director Charles Behling.

IGR's mission is to promote social justice through education about social diversity and intergroup relations. It is the oldest and most prominent intergroup dialogue program in higher education, and is the recipient of numerous awards for its work in bringing diverse groups together in a common pursuit of equity and justice.

The program is jointly sponsored by LSA and by the Division of Student Affairs.
