Fifty inaugural energy faculty fellows named

Fifty distinguished faculty members have been selected for membership in the new Michigan Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute (MMPEI) Faculty Fellows Program, which seeks to develop and coordinate energy research and education in the physical and social sciences.

Faculty in the Fellows Program were chosen from the College of Engineering, School of Natural Resources and Environment, Stephen M. Ross School of Business, LSA, the Law School, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and the Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning, and other research institutes. A list with their bios and research interests is at www.mmpei.umich.edu/outreach/fellows.html.

"The MMPEI Faculty Fellows Program represents the most active faculty in energy research and education at the University of Michigan," says Gary Was, director of MMPEI. "They are the experts in their respective fields and together, comprise a significant resource in energy expertise for the University, the community and the nation."

Faculty Fellows will help to shape the energy initiative by participating in MMPEI activities and events and providing feedback on solicitations and proposals for energy research and education programs. Fellows also are available for inquiries from the media, industry, and government concerning matters relating to energy.

"The MMPEI Faculty Fellows program provides an opportunity for faculty to connect with the energy initiative, to play a role in its evolution and to interact with other Fellows with complimentary interests in research and teaching," Was says.

The first group was selected by invitation. Appointments are made by the MMPEI executive committee. All tenure and tenure-track faculty, research professors, research scientists and clinical instructional faculty and lecturers engaged in research or education relating to energy are invited to apply. Submit a request for consideration, a short bio and statement of current activity in energy research and/or education to Shelly Sherman at sacs@umich.edu.
