Don't miss: Survivor presents show on coping with eating disorders

"Eaten Alive: Some Comedy, Some Tragedy, And a Lot of Truth" is the creation of Broadway actress Eva van Dok, who presents a portrayal of struggling to stay afloat in the emotional storm of an eating disorder in a free show at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the fourth floor Rackham Amphitheatre.

Van Dok provides an intimate look into what it is like to live in a culture that perpetuates a thin-ideal, through this 55-minute, one-woman performance that also addresses weight obsession, bulimia, obesity, depression, obsession, anorexia nervosa and compulsive exercise. Van Dok portrays five different women at various stages in their lives, each one struggling with her own eating issues.

Following the performance, there will be a question-and-answer period with the actress, who will speak about her own experience of having and recovering from an eating disorder. She will be joined by a clinician from Counseling and Psychological Services and a physician from University Health Service. A brief reception will follow.

This event is sponsored by the Coalition for Action Regarding Eating and Body Image Issues and the University Health Service.
