Photo: North Quad topped

Ironworkers prepare to hoist the final piece of structural steel for the North Quad Residential and Academic Complex. The workers and invited guests had an opportunity Nov. 18 to sign the painted beam during "topping out" ceremonies to signify that the project has reached its maximum height. The beam was decorated with a small evergreen tree for good luck, flanked by an American flag and a Michigan flag, and the banner of the Ironworkers Union. North Quad is the first new student residential facility constructed in 40 years at the University, and a cornerstone of the University's Residential Life Initiatives to strengthen the connection between student living and learning.
