The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) has chosen Louis Burgio as the recipient of the M. Powell Lawton Award, which is presented annually to an individual to honor contributions from applied gerontological research that have benefited older people and their care. Burgio, the Harold R. Johnson Professor of Social Work and a research professor at the Institute of Gerontology, is known for his work on developing interventions for the behavioral complications of dementia in long-term care settings and for problems faced by family caregivers. An award presentation will take place at GSA's annual meeting Nov. 21-25 in National Harbor, Md.
