Grounds maintenance efforts earn award

The Professional Grounds Management Society has recognized U-M with an Honor Award in the Society's 2009 Green Star Awards competition. The award was given in the Urban University Grounds category for exceptional grounds maintenance. Winners were honored during the Society's 2009 School of Grounds Management held Oct. 28-31 in conjunction with the GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky. In announcing the award, the PGMS cited John Lawter, associate director of plant buildings and grounds services, and his crew for maintaining robust landscape beds of annuals and perennials throughout campus, which highlight landmarks including Burton Memorial Tower; the "no mow" meadows adjacent to Lurie Reflecting Pool; and the Law Quadrangle grounds.
