Diversity Recruitment for Staff Web site launched

The new Diversity Recruitment for Staff Web site has been created to aid hiring managers in attracting, selecting and retaining a diverse and highly engaged staff community. The site is organized around six key steps, each with helpful resources and toolkits. It is designed to help departments build awareness and knowledge of the value of diversity, develop an effective recruitment strategy, investigate internal and external sourcing options, broaden the diversity of their candidate pools, screen and select candidates, and retain valued employees. For more information, go to hr.umich.edu/empserv/diversity/.

Applicants sought for Michigan Road Scholars

U-M instructional, research and clinical track faculty are invited to apply to become part of the 2010 Michigan Road Scholars Tour May 3-6. The annual tour exposes participants to the state's economy, government and politics, culture, educational systems, health and social issues, history and geography. Designed to increase mutual knowledge and understanding between the university and the people and communities in Michigan, the four-day tour will introduce participants to the places the majority of our students call home, encourage university service to the public, and suggest ways faculty can help address state and local issues. Meals, private accommodations and transportation are provided. Stops on the tour include presentations by and interaction with community representatives. Participants receive a notebook with pertinent background on state issues, locations and community representatives. Go to www.mrs.umich.edu to apply. Applications will be accepted until Nov. 29.

U-M to stop printing Statements of Activity

The university will cease central printing and distribution of Statements of Activity (SOA) in favor of online reporting. More than 1,000 staff voluntarily stopped printing their statements in this effort to make U-M a greener campus. They now are using a variety of online reporting options, including M-Pathways, BusinessObjects, M-Reports and others available through Wolverine Access. The final printed SOAs will be delivered for the Dec. 31 month end. More information about online alternatives to printed SOAs and answers to frequently asked questions are available on the Financial Operations Web site, www.finops.umich.edu.
