The search will be coordinated and applications reviewed by a group of three, headed by Jon Cosovich, deputy to the president, and including Johnson and Walter Harrison, vice president for university relations. They will be assisted in the process by Shelly Weiss Storbeck, vice president, Education Practice Division, A.T. Kearney Inc.
The secretary of the University is an executive officer and is the principal liaison between the president and executive officers and the Regents.
The secretary is responsible for developing and maintaining close working relationships among these individuals and is responsible to both groups for providing counsel and communication on the full range of matters related to the University.
The secretary provides an orientation for all new Regents and plans and implements all activities in support of the Regents role in the governance of the University.
Among other necessary qualifications, according to the job description published in this weeks Chronicle of Higher Education, candidates for the position should have sensitivity to and skill in addressing the varied and sometimes conflicting interests facing a large public research university; a demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity; and the highest level of discretion and integrity.
