Five faculty named Guggenheim Fellows
Five faculty members from the U-M are among the 158 artists, scholars and scientists who have received $4.5 million in fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of unusually distinguished achievement in the past and exceptional prom ise for future accomplishment. A total of 73 academic institutions are represented by one or more Fellows.
U-M recipients and their areas of scholarship are:
Anthony Michael Bloch, professor of mathematics; mathematics and dynamics of mechanical systems.
Philip H. Bucksbaum, professor of physics; ultrafast coherent sources for quantum control.
Michael Daugherty, associate professor of composition; music composition.
Susan A. Gelman, professor of psychology; the role of concepts and theories in human development.
David Velleman, professor of philosophy; the nature and value of a person's life.
