Use of human subjects focus of symposium
The Medical School Office of Research and Graduate Studies and the Program in Society and Medicine are sponsoring a symposium on "Ethical Considerations of the Use of Human Subjects in Research" to recognize the long-standing service of William Coon, professor of surgery. He recently retired as chair of the Medical School's Institutional Review Board, a post he had held since 1970.
Featured speakers for the half-day program include Robert J. Levine, professor of medicine and lecturer in pharmacology, Yale University School of Medicine, and chair of the Institutional Review Board, Yale-New Haven Medical Center; John C. Fletcher, the Kornfeld Professor of Biomedical Ethics, University of Virginia School of Medicine; and Jonathan Moreno, professor of pediatrics and of medicine and director of the Division of Humanities in Medicine at the State University of New York at Brooklyn.
