Saplings sprout into sculpture

Diag pedestrians have been able to watch an artwork-in-progress as Patrick Dougherty builds an environmental sculpture from saplings. Dougherty utilizes the tensile strength of the natural materials to call up childhood memories of treehouses, bird's nests or cocoons. Sidewalk engineers and kibitzers are welcome to watch the growth of the sculptures, located north of Angell Hall. He will be working 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. through Saturday (April 18). Photo by Bob Kalmbach
