Brian Ellerbe (shown above with his wife Ingrid and daugher Morgan Ashleigh) was named the 14th head coach of the men's basketball team last Friday (March 20). As interim head coach, Ellerbe led the team to a 25-9 record this season before losing in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
'I feel this is one of the premiere college basketball programs in the country,' Ellerbe said. 'We will continue what we have started this year to make sure Michigan basketball is in the forefront.'
Ellerbe was chosen by Athletic Director Tom Goss (above right) from five candidates. 'Brian took over the team at a very difficult time. He managed the environment he was thrown into extremely effectively, has proven to be able to rise to the occasion, and because of the values that we set early on and the things that Brian worked on over the course of the year, was able to get these young men in a position to be winners,' Goss said.
'All the things on the periphery I never worried about,' Ellerbe said. 'We just want to coach, to develop good players, to develop good people and keep it simplistic . . . As we talked about early in the year, the best way to get a job is to do your own and I think we did that.' Photo by Paul Jaronski, Photo Services
