What makes people want to be thinner?

Would-be waste makes art

Paul Flickinger's "Bundle," a sculputure now moved to a grassy hill between Bonisteel Blvd. and the School of Music, is made of 120 red pine trunks that are considered by the logging industry as waste material. His next project will involve 39 abandoned telephone poles. Flickinger expects his master's degree in December, but also has 30 years experience as an artist and potter. Photo by Helen Welford
