Art for a quarter-no fat, no calories

The machine at East Quad once dispensed packages of fat- and cholesterol-filled goodies, but has been recycled to dispense works of art. Students of Ann Savageau, lecturer in art at the Residential College, have filled the slots with their own works of art, available for just 25 cents. Above, LS&A first-year students, Liz Erliwine (kneeling) and Danika Von Gesjen fill the machine with fanciful creations. Inset at bottom, left, shows some of the works that may pop out when you pull the knob. Proceeds from the machine are used to purchase supplies for the University's prison arts program.
