There's more to it than making the shot

Community High School senior Catie Fraelich takes her best shot at one of the pool tables in the Billiards and Games Room in the Michigan Union. Hanging out at the pool hall takes on a whole new meaning when Community High School teacher Ed Kulka shows up with one of his classes. More than a field trip, more than a chance for teacher and students to bond, hanging out at the Michigan Union's pool room is a lesson in geometry, physics or calculus. The principles used in these mathematics-based studies can be applied to the game of pool, say Kulka and Betsy Sundholm, manager of the Union's pool room. Photo by Bob Kalmbach
