Topping off a day at Pound House

Children at the Pound House Children’s Center celebrated spring by making and decorating their own hats out of papier mache. The hats were displayed at the Michigan Union for an art show, then returned to their owners, who graciously consented to model their creations for our readers. Above, Ashley Bishel (front), Marcos Sanchez, Sten Hulleberg and Katherin Li in the middle row, Rachel Obstfeld and You-Kyung Nam in the back row, proudly show off their handmade headgear. The hats are one of many art projects children ages 3–5 accomplish during the art exploration projects at the center. These were made during a week-long project by forming the papier mache over bowls and drying the product, then decorating with cards, flowers and other collage materials. Photo by Bob Kalmbach
