Tasty train tempts toddlers at Mott

Mott Children’s Hospital came out a winner last week following the raffle of a gingerbread train during a holiday celebration in the Fleming Building. The $409 collected from Fleming Building staff was donated to Mott, as was the train, which was fashioned by Pat Sellinger (above), an administrative associate in the Freedom of Information Act Office.

Sellinger has been making gingerbread structures with her sisters for 10 years, and this is the third year that one has been raffled. Seeing children in the cafeteria during a temp job at University Hospital a few years ago, Sellinger realized ‘how lucky you are just to have healthy children.’

Fleming staff hold an all-building potluck each year, with dessert served in the Regents’ Room. Also part of dessert this year were holiday music selections performed by a student saxophone quartet that is organized by Donald J. Sinta, the Earl V. Moore Professor of Music. Quartet members are Jacob Chmara, Jonathan Kammer, Joe LeBlanc and A.J. Lockwood.

Microsoft products see brisk sales

Sales of Microsoft products were brisk last week as more than 1,500 students, faculty and staff took advantage of low prices at an ‘Office Party’ in the Michigan Union Ballroom. The low prices—$33 per item—are the result of a multi-year licensing agreement the University signed with Microsoft earlier this month. During the course of the three-year agreement, members of the University community also may upgrade their covered Microsoft products to the latest version at discounted prices. Those who didn’t make it to the party can purchase the software at the Computer Showcase, ground floor of the Michigan Union. Products for students include Microsoft Office 2000 Professional for Windows, Microsoft Office 98 for Macintosh and FrontPage 2000 for Windows. Those available to faculty and staff include Office 2000 Premium for Windows 95/98/NT, Office 98 for Macintosh and Office 97 Professional for Windows 95/98/NT.
