The winter edition of the Michigan Quarterly Review (MQR) features articles examining various literary works.

Anne Herrmann, associate professor of English and of women’s studies, contributes an essay on Amelia Earhart. Herrmann examines her autobiographies and life, as well as the lives of other aviators, including Charles Lindbergh and Bessie Coleman.

Helen Vendler, the A. Kingsley Porter University Professor at Harvard University, includes her Tanner Lecture, which she delivered last October at the U-M. Vendler discusses Walt Whitman’s poems on the death of Abraham Lincoln.

Alice Mattison, writing teacher at Bennington College, describes her years writing with Jane Kenyon, poet and distinguished U-M alumna.
