Commencement 2000
Graduating students,
families, faculty and speakers welcomed unseasonably warm weather at
commencement ceremonies April 28 and 29. Graduation exercises on the Ann
Arbor campus began at 3 p.m. April 28 for masters and doctoral
candidates who made their way to Hill Auditorium (at right).
Musician
and historian Bernice Johnson Reagon addressed the advanced-degree candidates.Spring
commencement for undergraduates was held April 29 in Michigan Stadium with
warm temperatures prompting apparel reminiscent of ocean islands. Several
grads chose to wear their loyalty on their caps (at left).
David Halberstam, author and journalist, addressed the
grads April
29. U-M Photo Services photographer Bill Wood caught him checking at the
last minute to make sure his address to students was in order (at
left, below).
University Photographer Bob Kalmbach found his way
up high enough
to snap a shot of prospective grads and their friends and relatives in
Michigan Stadium (bottom right). The grads, all in the center section of
the
photo, provide the darker tone in the photograph, contrasted with the
lighter apparel of their friends and family members.
