University will not renew apparel license

U-M will not renew its licensing agreement with Russell Corp. when it expires at the end of next month.

The decision announced Monday follows a recommendation from the President’s Advisory Committee on Labor Standards and Human Rights to end U-M’s licensing agreement with the company for repeated freedom of association violations.

University leaders made the decision after reviewing the committee’s Feb. 9 recommendation not to renew the apparel company’s contract that expires March 31.

The committee has been monitoring since 2007 issues related to Russell Corporation’s factories in Honduras.
