Staff share Business Intelligence solutions

At a time when the university is seeking ways to cuts costs, several community members will gather to discuss how their units use information to better allocate resources and funds.

The event, Honoring Innovation in Business Intelligence, will feature a panel of Business Intelligence (BI) experts who will share how their respective units use data to address key issues and how they use BI solutions to contain costs.

The event is planned for 8:30-11:00 a.m. April 22 in Forum Hall on the 4th floor of Palmer Commons.

Expert panel members include:

• Laurita Thomas, associate vice president for human resources

• Steven Schlecht, LSA budget, finance and Management Information Systems lead

• Ted Makowiec, HR benefits strategist, HR Benefits Office

• Julie Walsh, director of space management, Medical School

• Joe Castillo, business analyst, Law School

The event also will showcase winners of the 2009 BI Awards, an annual contest sponsored by the Advisors of Information Management Strategy and Michigan Administrative Information Services. The awards honor those who use BI to improve alignment, control costs, identify trends and empower employees within their departments, schools or colleges.

Due to limited seating, registration is required through the BI Web site, www.bi.umich.edu/index.php. To learn more about the event, go to www.bi.umich.edu/events/042209_honoring_innovation.html.
