Thompson Street Parking Structure spaces to close for guardrail replacement

A project to replace the guardrails in the existing Thompson Street Parking Structure (east and south sides) is scheduled to begin today, and will result in the closure of various groups of parking spaces between now and September.

Work will occur between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday work may also occur (day shift only) should the project get behind schedule due to unforeseen conditions.

Work is to begin on the roof level and progress to Level 2. Following is the schedule of construction activities:

• This week: Level 7 new rail installation

• July 22-28: Level 7 old rail removal/Level 6 new rail installation

• July 29-Aug. 4: Level 6 old rail removal/Level 5 new rail installation

• Aug. 5-11: Level 5 old rail removal/Level 4 new rail installation

• Aug. 12-18: Level 4 old rail removal/Level 3 new rail installation

• Aug. 19-25: Level 3 old rail removal/Level 2 new rail installation

• Aug. 26-Sept. 1: Level 2 old rail removal

It is necessary to stage the rails on the level being worked. For this reason, the eight spaces on the south end of each level will be closed to parking during the week the work is occurring. No other daytime space closures will be necessary.

Signs will be posted on the columns to advise parkers of the requirement to vacate spaces by 5:30 p.m. Drive lanes to circulate up in the deck will remain open as will the interior rows of parking.

The project is to be completed by the first week in September.
